CARING FOR YOUR FLOOR:

Cleaning:
1.) Do not use water on floor for the first 3 days after it has been finished.
2.) Wipe up any spills or water immediately or a milky ring may appear in the finish.
3.) Do not put any area rugs on floor for 7-10 days. The floor needs to breathe in order to cure.
4.) After initial 7-day waiting period, floor should be cleaned with water and a damp mop only. Occasionally a solution of vinegar and water may be used for dirtier floors.
5.) NEVER USE Murphy’s oil, detergents, Endust, Swiffers or anything other than what is mentioned above on the floor. NEVER WAX THE FLOOR.

WARNING: We have seen the overspray from funiture cleaners and polishes leave an outline on the floor around the furniture it was used on. This overspray can penetrate some floor finishes and soak into the wood causing any new finishes to not adhere to that area even when sanded. Avoid spraying cleaners or polishes directly on furniture that is sitting on a hardwood floor. Instead, spray the cloth and wipe the furniture, or better yet, just use a cloth dampened with water to wipe down furniture.
6.) Any furniture which may be moved regularly, or heavy furniture which may scratch or gouge the floor, should have felt protectors permanently applied to them.
7.) Wood is an organic material with its own characteristics and abnormalities. Because of climate changes, wood tends to shrink slightly in the winter due to the dry heat of furnaces ( this is when you may notice a few cracks occurring) but will expand in the summer and usually the cracks will seal themselves again. This movement is normal for all hardwoods and we want to inform you of it so you do not become concerned.

Floor Protectors
Use felt protectors applied to the bottom of chair legs and other furniture to avoid scratching the floor and causing excessive wear. How often your floor needs to be recoated depends on the precautions you take to protect it. A minimal amount of effort can keep your floor beautiful for many years. Dogs and cats will cause more wear to the floor. Keeping sand and dirt off the floor as much as possible will also help to reduce wear.
