Oak Stairs with wrought iron

Stairs and Handrails

Complete your hardwood renovation with matching stairs

Many homeowners extend the beauty and value of their hardwood floors by having us update their staircases with new treads, risers and skirt boards. We have installed, updated, and modernized countless stairways, using every imaginable type of wood, style, shape, and color.

We also install custom hand railings and replace balusters in both wood and wrought iron, which completely transforms the look and feel of staircases. And we can create custom newel posts and fabricate custom headers for curved landings.

This labor of love involves a high level of skill, precision, and mindfulness to craft each piece to fit perfectly in the space and match the desired aesthetic. It also requires a deep understanding of different types of wood, their strengths, and limitations, as well as the tools and use of old school techniques needed to shape and join them effectively. For example, this is how we fabricate curved window casings, custom curved bull nosings for stairs, and historic time period-specific moldings.

Of course, all staircase updates are completed to meet building code requirements.

"About 10 years ago I hired DC Hardwood Flooring based on a recommendation of a friend. I got multiple bids and proposals from various companies. I awarded the job to install new hardwood flooring in my living room, family room, pantry, and hallway to DC Hardwood Flooring because Dave said he could feather in the new wood to match the existing flooring in my entry way and kitchen. He was the only one who said it was possible to do so without ripping out pre-existing flooring. Once installed, he patiently worked with me to create a custom stain exactly the color I wanted. I am very picky (aka a pain in the butt) when it comes to workmanship and the professionalism of contractors in my home. Dave is meticulous. His work for me was flawless. He is a real craftsman. He knows how to coax true beauty out of wood, and he is respectful of being in someone else’s home. Plus, he works on time and on budget. He did such a great job, I hired him again recently to install hardwood flooring in my master bedroom and closet. Once again, he matched the stain and finish beautifully. Of all the contractors I have had do work in my home, he is by far the most reliable, fair, trustworthy, high quality, and accomplished tradesman. I highly recommend DC Hardwood Flooring and Dave, without any reservation."
